The 24th round of Serie A features an intriguing clash at the Gewiss Stadium between Gian Piero Gasperini’s Atalanta and Paolo Vanoli’s Torino, currently third and tenth in the league standings, respectively. The hosts are coming off a solid 2-2 draw in the Champions League against Barcelona, which, while not securing them direct qualification to the Round of 16, leaves them with a favorable chance of facing a weaker opponent in the playoffs. Given their recent European commitment, Gasperini might opt for some squad rotation. One major absence will be Lookman, who is sidelined for 3-4 weeks with a knee injury. In Serie A, Atalanta is coming off a comeback victory against Como, thanks to yet another brace from Retegui, who leads the league’s scoring charts with 16 goals. These three points allowed the Bergamaschi to widen the gap from their pursuers and stay in the race with Napoli and Inter. Torino, on the other hand, returned to winning ways in their last match, defeating Cagliari 2-0 at home. The game was decided by a brace from Scottish striker Che Adams, who now has seven goals in his debut season in Italy. These three points lifted Torino to mid-table, six points clear of the relegation zone, allowing them to look forward to the rest of the season with more confidence.
The 2-1 comeback victory over Como in the last Serie A round helped Atalanta bounce back from their previous defeat against Napoli, which had tempered their Scudetto ambitions. Despite the loss to Antonio Conte’s side, Atalanta played well and were undone mainly by individual errors.
In their last five official matches, Gasperini’s squad has recorded two draws, two wins, and one defeat, averaging 2.4 goals scored and 1.4 conceded per game. In Serie A, their home record stands at seven wins, one draw, and two losses, with an average of 2.8 goals scored and 1.5 conceded per match. Before losing to Napoli, Atalanta had remained unbeaten at home in the league since September 24.
The 2-0 victory over Cagliari marked Torino’s first win since December 13 (1-0 against Empoli). Paolo Vanoli appears to have found a more stable system with his switch to a 4-2-3-1 formation, which has led to a five-match unbeaten streak (four draws and one win). A key aspect of this resurgence has been the contributions of Karamoh and Vlasic, who have added unpredictability to Torino’s attacking play.
Over their last five matches, Torino has scored six goals and conceded four, with goalkeeper Milinkovic-Savic playing a crucial role in keeping them solid at the back. As for their away form, the Granata are unbeaten in four consecutive matches (three draws and one win). Overall, they have scored 14 goals and conceded 16 in their 11 away games this season.
If Atalanta wants to stay in the Scudetto race, they cannot afford to drop points in matches like this one against Torino. Gasperini’s side, missing Lookman and Scalvini (in addition to long-term absentees Scamacca and Kossounou), will be fully focused on securing three points and building on their win over Como.
While Torino managed to upset the odds in the reverse fixture, Atalanta was still a work in progress after the summer transfer window. Furthermore, the Bergamaschi have been solid at home and have a golden opportunity to close the gap on Inter and Napoli, who face tough matches against Milan and Roma, respectively. Despite Torino’s slight improvement in attack, they may struggle to trouble Carnesecchi.
Considering these factors, the Atalanta vs Torino prediction from the BetMines algorithm favors a home win.
