Ahead of the big Champions League clash against Bayern Munich, Enzo Maresca’s Chelsea are called to defend their unbeaten record this season against Brentford on Matchday 4 of the 2025/26 Premier League. The Blues are chasing their third consecutive league win, which would not only secure their current second place but also allow them to overtake Liverpool, who are currently top of the table with a two-point lead and playing away at Burnley. Maresca’s men are in excellent form, still riding the momentum that carried them to last season’s UEFA Conference League and, above all, the FIFA Club World Cup. After such a campaign, the Italian manager’s goal is to challenge Liverpool in the Premier League title race while going as deep as possible in the Champions League, a competition the Blues return to after a two-year absence. The home side Brentford also need the three points to reach six in total, moving closer to mid-table and creating some breathing room from the relegation zone. This fixture has often been balanced in recent years, but Chelsea’s growing self-confidence makes it difficult to imagine them leaving the Brentford Community Stadium without all three points.
After beating Aston Villa 1-0 and Bournemouth 2-0 in the first round of the EFL Cup, Brentford suffered a setback on Matchday 3 of the Premier League, losing 2-1 away at newly promoted Sunderland just before the international break.
That defeat leaves the Bees in 15th place with just three points, coming from their only win so far, on opening day against Aston Villa. In the first three league games, Keith Andrews’ side has averaged 1 goal scored per match while conceding 1.67.
While the defense clearly needs adjustments, Brentford can take comfort from their solid home record in recent months. The Londoners have lost only one of their last five competitive matches at home (3 wins, 1 draw).
Chelsea have looked consistent in this early part of the season, remaining unbeaten in the first three Premier League matches. In their most recent outing, the Blues defeated Fulham 2-0 thanks to goals from Joao Pedro and Enzo Fernandez, while the previous weekend they had crushed West Ham 5-1 away.
Enzo Maresca’s side is living up to preseason expectations as one of the main title contenders. Chelsea currently sit second in the table with 7 points, two behind leaders Liverpool.
Their main strength so far has been their defense, conceding only once in the league, but the attack has also been firing, averaging 2.33 goals per match. Away from home, the trend is also positive, with three wins, one draw, and one defeat in their last five Premier League trips.
Chelsea travel to the Brentford Community Stadium with one clear goal: winning to keep pace with Liverpool and possibly even leapfrog them if the Reds fail to beat Burnley away.
Maresca’s side are among the top possession-based teams in the Premier League, while Brentford focus mainly on counter-attacking and exploiting spaces left by opponents. This is not just a clash of two teams but also of two very different footballing philosophies.
Despite the key attacking absences of Delap and Cole Palmer, Chelsea can still rely on a top-class forward line featuring Joao Pedro, Neto, and Estevao, players capable of deciding matches at any moment—especially against a vulnerable Brentford defense.
Given the Blues’ excellent form and offensive potential, the tip from BetMines is to back the away win (bet on 2).
