The Monday Night of the twenty-fourth day of the Premier League is a special one because it is a derby, one of the many London derbies but also one of the most heartfelt, even if it does not involve two neighboring parts of the City: Chelsea against West Ham or West against East (despite the name West) of London will challenge each other to try to recover from a period that is certainly not positive. The non-simplicity of the moment is in fact shared, although it deserves clarifications and distinctions but it is an irrefutable truth that Chelsea until not too long ago was second, strong of a brilliant and entertaining football while now it is sixth, just like West Ham last year finished in ninth place and is now fourteenth. Desire for redemption, therefore, and to start again, truly, in a big way after a slow January. The return of former Chelsea man Graham Potter as Hammers manager adds even more interest to an unmissable derby that divides the teams by points in the league table but unites them in their fierce desire to make an immediate mark on the pitch.
Chelsea have gone from an excellent second place to a more normal sixth place in a month and a half, but the clearly negative data for the Blues is that, of the last 7 games in the Premier League, Maresca's boys have won only 1, just as the number of defeats suffered in the last 16 at Stamford Bridge is 1.
The last game, lost 3-1 against Manchester City, brings the total to 11 goals conceded in the last 6, a certainly negative average that is partly compensated by the Blues' attack which, with 45 goals in the Premier League, is the third of the season.
The last 1-1 collected at home to Aston Villa is certainly to be considered a positive point, but it also indicates only 1 success (moreover against bottom-of-the-class Southampton) in the last 6 away from home for the Hammers.
The draw, however, is the result that has been less frequent so far for West Ham in the league where, in fact, they have had 7 wins, 10 losses and 6 draws.
For West Ham there is certainly a goal problem to solve and, the fact that the best scorer of the team is "still" Jarrod Bowen, injured for a month (possible return) and author of 5 goals is an indication in this regard for Potter who, so far, in the Premier League with the Hammers has a neutral record of 1 win, 1 draw and 1 defeat.
Potter’s West Ham seems to be able to show some signs of improvement, just as a real upgrade is expected from Chelsea at home, in this very emotional match. Also considering the pride and the ranking to be “fixed” for both teams, the hypothesis that comes easiest to think of is that of seeing them score, an event that, for the Blues, has happened in all of their last three matches. The BetMines algorithm prediction, therefore, supports the theory of a derby where both teams will score.
