Prediction published on Mar 3, 2025 12:11 AM by Dario in Europe - Champions League | Modified on Mar 3, 2025 12:48 AM
It may be considered a rematch but this one on Tuesday 4 March will be much, much more important because it will be worth (together with the return match) a place in the Champions League quarter-finals: Club Brugge and Aston Villa meet again four months after meeting in the first phase of the top European competition which, at the time, smiled on the Belgian team, winner thanks to a penalty by Vanaken. That defeat did not prevent Aston Villa from having an excellent run finishing in the top eight and was instead decisive for Club Brugge who, then, albeit with difficulty, reached the Playoffs, surprisingly eliminating Atalanta. And it is precisely from the double success over the Goddess that, mainly, Aston Villa will have to watch out more than from the November match: since then Club Brugge has grown despite having slowed down in the league lately but only in the last month. Certainly, Aston Villa will be able to count first and foremost on its strength, on its numerous individual players, on a tried and tested game: not a little. Reaching the Champions League quarter-finals for Emery's team would be a testament to the work done in recent years.
Only 1 win in the last 6 league games is not a sign of a great period of form for Club Brugge, who are seeing the first place in the Jupiler League slip away.
In Europe, however, Hayen's team is coming off two wins over Atalanta which have a huge weight. In general, Club Brugge's European path, therefore, is 5 wins, 2 draws and 3 defeats.
At home, the Belgian team has a record that can make us optimistic: only 1 defeat in the last 17 games at the Jan Breydel Stadium.
The 2 away defeats in February in the Premier League, against Wolves and Crystal Palace have somewhat dulled Aston Villa's prospects in the league, which now sees the Villans stationed in a less than exciting ninth place, also contributing to a worrying overall picture of the team away from home, where the seasonal defeats are already 9!
In favor of Aston Villa, however, there is a path in the FA CUP which has seen the team reach the quarter-finals, while, in the Champions League, the Villans have done very well: 5 wins, 1 draw and 2 defeats.
The very negative away record by Aston Villa adds unpredictability to the match and opens the doors to a Club Brugge that can try to pierce the Villans. The offensive potential of Emery's team is still remarkable and, although in November the match ended 1-0, on Tuesday, between a Club Brugge sure of progressing to the next round against Atalanta and strong in home advantage and an Aston Villa that, away from home, seems open to less solid matches, the BetMines algorithm prediction sees both teams more easily scoring.
Club Brugge (4-2-3-1): Mignolet; Seys, Ordonez, Mechele, De Cuyper; Jashari, Vetlesen; Taibi, Vanaken, Tzolis; Jutgla. Coach: Hayen.
