Atalanta will open the Wednesday of the Champions League Playoffs, visiting Club Brugge, after having won their league match against Verona, with a prodigious 0-5 that, for the Goddess, was a bit like a classic rediscovered, one of those very large victories that, from time to time, the Nerazzurri manage to obtain, as happened in one of the last European matches against Sturm Graz. The Club Brugge that Atalanta will find themselves facing, especially at home, seems to be made of a different stuff and, Juventus, Sporting Lisbon and Aston Villa, all "non-winners" at the Belgians' home, know something about it. Even in the Jupiler League, Club Brugge has returned to winning ways, just like Atalanta in Serie A: both teams, chasing at similar distances a peak that is difficult to reach anyway. Finally, it is impossible not to specify the injury situation in view of this match; an almost immaculate bulletin for the home team who will have everyone at their disposal, full of defections and potential ones for Atalanta who continues to lose "pieces" but who has also rediscovered, in the centre of the attack, a super Mateo Retegui, author of four goals in the match at the Bentegodi against Hellas.
Club Brugge returned to success against Leuven after a period without satisfaction. In the Jupiler League, however, the Belgians' performance is decent: second place with 15 wins, 6 draws and 4 defeats, just as they have been decent in the Champions League which, limited to home games, perhaps takes on a higher value.
Always opposed to big opponents, Club Brugge, in fact, has lost only 1 of the 4 European home games played and, considering all competitions, the Belgian team's unbeaten streak at home reaches 15 games.
Returning to the Champions League, the rearguard of Hayen's team has stood out well while the attack has struggled: 7 goals scored in 8 total matches and no player who, so far, has managed to score more than one goal in the competition.
Atalanta has found success again and what a success! 0-5 in Verona where Mateo Retegui ended up on the scoreboard 4 times, having scored 23 goals this season, 3 of which in the Champions League, a competition in which the team finished in ninth place in the first phase thanks to 4 wins, 3 draws and 1 defeat.
The defence stood out the most in the continental season, with only 6 goals conceded in 8 matches but with 5 of these matches in which the goal remained intact. If Club Brugge smiles when they play at home, the same can be said of Atalanta away: the Goddess is in fact unbeaten in 14 matches (league and Champions League) away from the Gewiss Stadium.
Atalanta, according to the odds, is the favorite on the eve but will have to deal with many absences that could limit their exuberance. Considering that it is a do-or-die match (even with the return leg to be played in Bergamo) and looking at the good numbers of the Club Brugge defense, which will probably play to cage the Goddess, there is the feeling that this match could end with a relatively limited number of goals and this corresponds to the prediction of the BetMines algorithm which, sees as the most probable event, a match with a maximum of 3 goals.
Club Brugge (4-2-3-1): Mignolet; Seys, Ordonez, Mechele, De Cuyper; Onyedika, Jashari; Nilsson, Vanaken, Tsolis; Jutgla. All: Hayen.
