The 3th round of Serie A closes on Monday, September 15, with the Monday Night clash between Como and Genoa, two teams eager to bounce back after losing in the last league fixture. Before the international break, the Lariani were defeated against Bologna: a misstep that forces them to win against Genoa if they want to keep alive their dream of finishing the season with a European spot. The clash against the Rossoblù is already a crucial test: with a victory, Cesc Fabregas’s side would move to 6 points, climbing towards the top half of the table. On the other hand, a defeat would push them closer to the relegation zone. The situation is even worse for Genoa, as Patrick Vieira’s team is still searching for their first win after two rounds. Genoa have proven solid defensively, but toothless in attack, and without goals it’s difficult to earn points, as shown by the single point they have so far. Returning from the Stadio Giuseppe Sinigallia with a win would allow them to leapfrog Como in the standings, but another defeat would raise concerns, even if there would still be time to recover. A match, therefore, already worth vital points for both sides, and the outcome will tell us a lot about Como’s real European ambitions and Genoa’s survival hopes.
Como suffered their first defeat of the season in the last league match, losing 1-0 at the Dall’Ara against Bologna. Cesc Fabregas’s men failed to replicate their excellent display the week before at home against Lazio, defeated 2-0 at the Sinigallia.
The Lariani, with 3 points after two games, boast a solid home record, having won or drawn eight of their last nine matches in front of their fans. This season, they have already beaten Südtirol 3-1 in the Coppa Italia first round and Lazio 2-0 on Serie A’s opening matchday, thanks to goals from Tasos Douvikas and Nico Paz.
In their first three official matches of the season, Como have scored an average of 1.67 goals per game while conceding just 0.66. Ahead of the clash with Genoa, Fabregas is expected to confirm most of his usual starting XI. The only doubt remains between Morata and Douvikas for the striker role.
Genoa have had a disappointing start to the season, drawing 0-0 against Lecce and losing 1-0 at home to Juventus. Their only win so far came in mid-August with a 3-0 Coppa Italia success against Vicenza, which now feels like a distant memory. They badly need to find a league victory.
In Serie A, the glaring issue is their lack of goals. If the attack has struggled, the defense has been the team’s strength, conceding only one goal in the first two games.
The Rossoblù are yet to play away this season, but their 2025 away record is concerning. Since January, they have managed just one win, alongside five draws and five defeats. Even more worrying, in five of those eleven matches, Vieira’s men failed to score a single goal.
The Como vs Genoa predictions lean strongly towards the home side, seen by many as one of the potential surprise teams of the 2025/26 Serie A season.
In their first home match, the Lariani dominated Lazio, and the final 2-0 scoreline could have been much bigger. Nico Paz was the standout performer with one assist and a stunning free-kick goal.
Fabregas’s men approached that match with an aggressive, high-intensity pressing style, immediately recovering the ball to catch the opposing defense off guard.
Given their desire to bounce back after the defeat against Bologna, Como are expected to show the same mentality. This season, it will be tough for anyone to get points at the Sinigallia. A daunting task for Vieira, whose team has struggled badly on the road throughout 2025.
Considering also Como’s 1-0 win over Genoa last April, the BetMines algorithm predicts a comfortable victory for the Lariani, determined to relaunch their European ambitions.
