After marking his debut as England manager with a 2-0 victory over Albania, Thomas Tuchel is looking to make it two wins in a row as he hosts Latvia at Wembley. A strong start for the German coach, who silenced some English tabloids by not only winning convincingly in the opening match of Group K in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers but also proving his vision by starting Myles Lewis-Skelly, Arsenal’s young left-back, from the first minute. It was the 18-year-old, on his debut for the Three Lions, who unlocked the game with a well-timed overlapping run, finished off by a perfect assist from Jude Bellingham. Now, the former Chelsea and Bayern Munich manager has a great opportunity to secure another victory against Latvia, who won against Andorra last Friday. A win would allow England to claim the top spot in Group K alone, a goal well within their reach as the clear favorites to secure direct qualification for the 2026 World Cup.
The 2-0 home win over Albania boosts England’s confidence, marking their fourth consecutive victory following Nations League wins against Finland, Greece, and Ireland. A notable aspect is the defensive solidity, with zero goals conceded in the last three official matches.
Offensively, England have been highly productive, averaging 2.8 goals per game in their last five matches. This is largely due to the abundance of attacking talent at Tuchel’s disposal, starting with Harry Kane, who scored against Albania, reaching 70 goals for the national team.
The 1-0 win over Andorra provides a morale boost for Latvia, who entered the match on a four-game winless streak (one draw, three losses), a poor run that saw them finish last in Group 4 of League C in the Nations League.
Earning points at Wembley will be a tough task for Paolo Nicolato’s team, especially considering that before their recent win against Andorra, Latvia hadn’t won an away game since June 14, 2022—a 2-0 victory against Liechtenstein.
For his debut, Tuchel opted for a 4-2-3-1 formation, maximizing his team’s attacking potential. Behind Harry Kane, the trio of Foden, Bellingham, and Rashford proved to be a dangerous offensive force, and it is likely that Tuchel will field the same lineup to secure another easy three points.
As for the match prediction, this is the kind of fixture that England cannot afford to slip up if they want to stay at the top of the group. Expect England to come out aggressively, possibly sealing the result in the first half.
Given England’s recent goal-scoring form, BetMines' prediction algorithm forecasts a high-scoring match with over 2.5 goals expected.
