The 25th round of the Turkish Super Lig concludes with the most anticipated match of the entire season: the Intercontinental Derby between Galatasaray and Fenerbahce. The RAMS Park, home of Galatasaray, is set to host this fiery clash that will give us a clearer picture of which team has the best chance of securing the Turkish Super Lig title this season. The hosts, in addition to the home advantage, come into this game with a six-point lead over their historic rivals, sitting at the top of the table with 63 points. A win would allow Okan Buruk’s team to extend their lead to nine points, putting one hand on the championship trophy and, most importantly, helping them move past their painful Europa League elimination at the hands of AZ Alkmaar. On the other hand, Fenerbahce, who recently advanced to the Europa League Round of 16 after eliminating Anderlecht, come into this match on the back of a 15-game unbeaten streak. A victory at RAMS Park would completely reopen the title race. All eyes in Turkey, and indeed the global football community, will be on Istanbul this Monday afternoon, as this fixture promises drama, goals, and excitement.
By defeating Rizespor away from home, Galatasaray extended their winning streak to four consecutive matches in the Super Lig. So far, Buruk’s side has won 20 out of 23 league matches, remaining undefeated with three draws. At home, they have recorded 10 wins and 2 draws in 12 games.
Although Fenerbahce has scored one goal more than Galatasaray (60 vs. 59), Osimhen and his teammates boast the best home attack in the Super Lig, with 31 goals (an average of 2.58 goals per match). Their standout performer is undoubtedly Victor Osimhen, who has netted 8 goals in his last 10 appearances across all competitions.
The six-point gap between these two teams in the standings is mainly due to the two defeats suffered by Jose Mourinho’s Fenerbahce this season, including the 2-1 loss in the reverse fixture against Galatasaray on September 21. Their last league defeat dates back to December 7 (2-1 against Besiktas).
Fenerbahce heads into this crucial title-deciding match after winning seven consecutive Super Lig games. They also boast the league’s best attack with 60 goals (an average of 2.6 per match). Notably, two of Mourinho’s players have already surpassed the 10-goal mark in the league: Edin Dzeko (12 goals) and Youssef En-Nesyri (15 goals).
Although Galatasaray holds a slight edge due to their home advantage and undefeated status in the league, the Intercontinental Derby is always an unpredictable encounter that could produce surprises.
Both teams boast the best attacks in the Super Lig and are in excellent form despite Galatasaray’s recent Europa League elimination.
For these reasons, the BetMines algorithm’s prediction for Galatasaray vs Fenerbahce suggests a match in which both teams are likely to score at least one goal.
