Six days after being eliminated from the Europa League by Bodo/Glimt, Marco Baroni's Lazio are back on the pitch at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris in Genoa to turn the page and stay in the Champions League zone. Awaiting the Biancocelesti on the 33rd day of Serie A is Patrick Vieira's Genoa, who, having reached a quiet mid-table position several days ago, no longer have much to ask of their championship. Last week, the visiting team faced what can be considered the most important match of its season, but which did not have the outcome all the fans expected. Although Lazio managed to come back from a double disadvantage in the first leg in Norway, they were defeated on penalties, thus handing Bodo/Glimt the pass to the semi-finals of the Europa League. It was a match that will undoubtedly have repercussions on the trip to Genoa, as the Biancocelesti lost Nuno Tavares through injury and will have to check on the condition of Castellanos, who finished the match with a limp after missing the decisive penalty kick. To these two defections, we must also add the absence through disqualification of Isaksen, one of the most in-form players of this period. Genoa, meanwhile, could take advantage of Lazio's complicated moment. With nothing to lose and their fans behind them, the Rossoblù will be motivated to grab a statement win to cap off a solid season. For that to happen, however, Vieira will need to get Andrea Pinamonti firing again — the striker hasn't scored in over two months.
Patrick Vieira’s side played out a goalless draw against Verona in their last league match, building on a 1-0 win over Udinese from the previous round. Overall, Genoa have lost just one of their last six games, collecting 39 points from 32 matches (9 wins, 12 draws, 11 losses).
At the Ferraris, Genoa are unbeaten in their last 6 games (5 wins, 1 draw), mostly against teams battling relegation — a run that’s been instrumental in securing their top-flight status. Defensively, they’ve been excellent at home, conceding just 18 goals in 16 games (1.12 per match), one of the best records in Serie A.
Before their exit from the Europa League on penalties despite beating Bodo/Glimt 3-1 in regular time, Lazio drew 1-1 in the Derby della Capitale against AS Roma. That result marked their third consecutive positive outcome in Serie A following a draw with Torino and a win over Atalanta. With 56 points, the Biancocelesti remain in contention for a European place.
Away from the Stadio Olimpico, Baroni’s team have had mixed results. They won 1-0 in Bergamo against Atalanta but also suffered a humiliating 5-0 defeat in Bologna. In total, they've picked up 28 points on the road — exactly half their total tally — with an average of 1.43 goals scored and 1.31 conceded per away match.
Under Patrick Vieira, Genoa have become a solid and reliable team at home. In the 6 matches played at the Ferraris in 2025, they’ve conceded only 2 goals and kept 4 clean sheets — an impressive stat that shows their defensive strength. However, they also struggle to score, with an average of 1.12 goals per home match.
Lazio, on the other hand, are finding it increasingly difficult to convert their chances. They’ve only managed 1 goal in their last 3 away games across all competitions. Moreover, the biancoceleste team will come to Genoa after the blow of the elimination from the Europa League and with several players out of form (Castellanos above all), as well as with the certain absences of Tavares, due to injury, and Isaksen, due to disqualification.
Considering all of this, the BetMines algorithm prediction for Genoa vs Lazio suggests a low-scoring match with Under 2.5 goals. The feeling is that the backlash suffered by the Lazio team and the poor goal-scoring streak of the hosts could result in a match with few goal-scoring actions or at least little spectacle.
