The 25th round of Serie A concludes with the Monday night clash between Genoa, managed by Patrick Vieira, and Venezia, led by Eusebio Di Francesco. This match is a crucial relegation battle, even though both teams find themselves in quite different league positions. The home side, Genoa, sits in 12th place with 27 points, while Venezia is struggling in 19th place with just 16 points. The match at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris carries significant importance for both sides, but a win is especially crucial for Venezia, as they aim to close the gap on Parma and Empoli. Genoa, who secured a solid 1-1 away draw against Torino in the previous round, knows that a victory here would take them a step closer to safety. With Torino losing to Bologna on Friday, a win for Genoa would even see them leapfrog their recent opponents in the standings. Vieira's team is in good home form, having won their last two home Serie A games. On the other hand, Venezia remains the only Serie A team yet to win an away match this season. Additionally, their attacking power has been significantly weakened after losing star striker Joel Pohjanpalo during the January transfer window.
Genoa enters this crucial relegation battle following a 1-1 draw against Torino, thanks to Andrea Pinamonti’s eighth goal of the season. In their last five Serie A matches, they have registered: 2 wins (both at home against Parma and Monza),1 draw and 2 losses.
Despite Pinamonti’s return to scoring form, Genoa still has one of the weakest attacks in Serie A, with only 22 goals in 24 games. However, their defensive solidity has been a strength, conceding just 1.38 goals per game on average.
Venezia suffered their 9th league defeat in their last match, a 1-0 loss against Roma. Their recent form is concerning, having taken only two points from their last five matches (3 defeats, 2 draws), with their last win dating back to December 22nd against Cagliari (2-1).
Although Venezia has scored as many goals as Genoa (22), their defensive frailties are a major issue. They have conceded 39 goals (1.62 per game), making them one of the worst defenses in the league. To make matters worse, injuries to Stankovic and Svoboda further weaken their defensive line.
Until recently, Genoa had struggled to win at home, but they have broken that curse with two consecutive home victories against Parma and Monza.
Despite missing key midfielders Badelj and Thorsby, Genoa has a strong chance to secure a third straight home victory. Additionally, the possible return of attacking threats Malinovskyi and Cornet could further boost their offense.
Venezia, on the other hand, has yet to find an effective attacking solution after Pohjanpalo’s departure and has conceded goals in 19 consecutive Serie A matches. Interestingly, their last clean sheet came in the reverse fixture against Genoa, which ended 2-0 for Venezia.
Considering these factors, the BetMines algorithm heavily favors a Genoa victory.
