After Matchday 5, LaLiga immediately resumes with the first midweek round of the 2025/26 season. Among the games scheduled for Wednesday, September 24, there’s the clash at Coliseum Alfonso Pérez, where Getafe hosts Deportivo Alaves in a showdown between two sides who have both started the season positively. The hosts, currently 8th with 9 points, are looking for an immediate reaction after the heavy defeat against Barcelona. A win would push Bordalás’ men back into the top spots, fueling ambitions of going beyond their usual mid-table safety. After recent seasons spent fighting relegation, Getafe dreams of reliving, at least in part, the fairytale of 2018/19, when they finished 5th. On the other hand, Alaves arrives with 7 points and the comfort of already having a five-point cushion above the relegation zone. Despite a tough schedule, Coudet’s team has shown solidity and now aims to bounce back after the loss against Sevilla, hoping to reach double digits and collect crucial points in the fight for survival. Everything points to a balanced and hard-fought match between two teams that last season only escaped relegation by two points, fully aware of how important every early-season point can be.
In the last league match, Getafe could do very little against the power of Barcelona, suffering a 3-0 defeat at the Estadi Johan Cruyff. Compared to the 2-0 win over Oviedo in the previous round, this was definitely a step backwards.
Despite this setback, the start of the season remains positive for Bordalás’ squad, who have collected 9 points so far (3 wins, 2 losses) with an average of 1.2 goals scored and 1.4 conceded per game. Of their six total goals in LaLiga, half were scored by young striker Adrián Liso (born in 2005), although he has not found the net in the last three games.
At home this season, the Azulones have won their only game played: a 2-0 victory over Oviedo on Matchday 4. That’s a big improvement for a side that last season earned more points away than at home and finished the campaign with a worrying streak of five consecutive home defeats.
In the last three matches, Alaves have faced a tricky schedule but performed well: a draw against Atletico Madrid, an away win over Athletic Bilbao, and a narrow 2-1 defeat to Sevilla at home. Not bad for a team expected to fight until the very end for survival.
After 5 matchdays, Alaves have already collected 7 points (2 wins, 1 draw, 2 losses), averaging 1 goal scored and 1 conceded per game. The Babazorros have looked well-organized defensively and consistent in attack, led by Carlos Vicente, who has already scored 2 goals this season.
On the road in LaLiga 2025/26, Alaves have shown mixed results: a 1-0 defeat against Real Betis followed by a 1-0 win at the difficult ground of Athletic Bilbao. Considering also last season, they have lost only 2 of their last 9 away games (3 wins, 4 draws).
Looking at the head-to-head record, Getafe vs Alaves has often been low-scoring. Nine of the last ten meetings ended with fewer than three goals, and in six cases, there was no more than one goal scored.
From a tactical perspective, the visitors are more accustomed to maintaining possession and will try to use this to break down Getafe’s defense. A key role could be played by the three attacking midfielders behind Toni Martinez, especially Carlos Vicente, who will operate on the right side.
Bordalás’ Getafe will likely defend with a five-man backline when out of possession, looking to launch quick vertical attacks once they win the ball, aiming to connect with the forward duo Mayoral and Liso.
Despite the lack of goals in recent meetings, both teams have shown similar attacking output so far this season. For this reason, the BetMines algorithm predicts a game that could cancel itself out, making Under 2.5 goals the most likely outcome.
