On Saturday, November 15, at the Georgios Karaiskakis Stadium in Piraeus, Greece and Scotland face off in one of the most anticipated clashes of the penultimate matchday in Group C of the 2026 World Cup Qualifiers. The home side, coming off three consecutive defeats, has now abandoned any remaining hopes of qualification. With just three points in the standings and seven points behind the top two positions, Jovanovic’s men will at least try to end their campaign with dignity, delivering a spirited performance in front of the Athens crowd. For Scotland, on the other hand, this is a crucial fixture. Steve Clarke’s men, already certain to finish among the top two in the group, travel to Piraeus aiming to claim all three points and remain level at the top with Denmark, both currently on 10 points. Should the Danes also secure a win against Belarus, next week’s direct clash will decide who qualifies directly for the 2026 World Cup and who will have to go through the playoffs.
Greece comes into this game in low spirits after losing their last three matches. In their most recent fixture on October 12, they suffered a 3-1 defeat to Denmark, with the lone Greek goal scored by Christos Tzolis, the Club Brugge forward.
Jovanovic’s side has collected just 3 points in Group C so far, with 1 win and 3 losses. Offensively, the team has been fairly efficient, averaging 1.75 goals per game thanks to international-caliber players like Pavlidis and Tzolis. However, defensive issues persist — they have conceded an average of 2.5 goals per match.
At home, the Sky Blues have shown inconsistent form in Group C, thrashing Belarus 5-1 but then falling 0-3 to Denmark. More broadly, they have lost three of their last four home matches across all competitions, indicating that home advantage hasn’t provided a significant edge.
Scotland are enjoying a strong run, having remained unbeaten in eight of their last nine matches across all competitions. On October 12, Clarke’s men defeated Belarus 2-1 thanks to goals from Che Adams and Scott McTominay, both currently playing in Italy’s Serie A for Torino and Napoli respectively.
After four rounds in Group C, the Tartan Army has collected 10 points from 3 wins and 1 draw. The Scots have averaged 2.34 goals over their last three matches, with Che Adams particularly impressive, scoring twice. Defense, however, remains their strongest asset: only two goals conceded so far — an average of 0.5 per game.
Scotland also come into this trip on the back of four positive away results: three wins (against Poland, Greece, and Belarus) and one draw (against Denmark). A promising stat ahead of the trip to Greece: the Scots have not conceded a single goal in their last three away matches.
Matches between Greece and Scotland have historically been tightly contested: the last three encounters, all played in 2025, ended with one win for Greece and two for Scotland, with both sides scoring a total of four goals combined.
For this reason, BetMines expects another balanced encounter, with the result in doubt right up to the final whistle. Despite Greece being out of the qualification race, they will fight hard to deliver a respectable performance for their supporters.
As for the final outcome, BetMines’ prediction is Double Chance 1X, estimated at a 69% probability.
Considering the last two head-to-heads — 3-0 to Greece and 3-1 to Scotland — a match with more than two goals seems likely. Therefore, the Over 2.5 goals option, which has occurred in Greece’s last five matches, has a 56% chance of landing, similar to the “both teams to score” market.
