Sunday, November 24, all eyes will be on the Giuseppe Meazza Stadium for the Milan Derby between Inter and Milan, valid for Matchday 12 of Serie A and crucial for the top of the table. The first and third teams in the league, separated by just two points, face off. Inter, after a not entirely convincing start to the season, have climbed the standings and, by winning this derby, would have the chance to consolidate first place and increase the gap from their city rivals, effectively excluding them from the title race. Moreover, the desire for redemption of the Italian vice-champions should not be underestimated, as they were never victorious in the five derbies played last season. Milan, on the other hand, are looking for a victory that would allow them to overtake Inter and re-enter the Scudetto race. As always, the Milan Derby promises to be intense, with both teams ready to give their all to assert their city supremacy and increase their chances of fighting until the end for the Serie A title.
Inter arrive at this fixture in great form, coming off four consecutive wins in both Serie A and the Champions League. Before the international break, Cristian Chivu's team beat Lazio 2-0 at San Siro thanks to goals from Lautaro Martínez and Bonny, a victory that allowed the Nerazzurri to reach the top of the standings with 24 points, from 8 wins and 3 losses.
The Inter squad can rely on the league's best attack: 26 goals in 11 games, with an average of 2.36 goals per match. Defensively, however, Inter are less solid compared to other top teams, conceding 1.09 goals per game.
San Siro is proving to be a fortress: the Nerazzurri have won all of their last six home matches across all competitions, scoring 16 goals and conceding only 3. This season, their only home defeat remains the 1-2 loss to Udinese on August 31.
In attack, the star remains Lautaro Martínez, who has scored in the last two games and is ready to lead the team again. Marcus Thuram will return to the starting lineup, recovered from injury and eager to reclaim his place in Inter's attacking duo.
Milan come into this match in excellent form, riding an eleven-match unbeaten streak, although their recent performances have not always impressed in terms of style of play. In their last outing, on November 8, the Rossoneri drew 2-2 at Parma, a result that kept them in third place with 22 points, from 6 wins, 4 draws, and just 1 loss.
The team is finding the net consistently (1.55 goals per match) and, compared to last season, is showing more defensive solidity, conceding only 0.82 goals per game. However, one worrying stat remains: Milan have conceded at least one goal in each of their last four matches.
Massimiliano Allegri’s men have performed well away from San Siro, remaining unbeaten in nine of their last ten away matches in Serie A and the Coppa Italia. In the league, their away record is 9 points, from 2 wins and 3 draws, with an average of 1.6 goals scored and 0.6 conceded per match.
Among the derby's key players, Rafa Leao stands out, having scored four goals in his last five appearances. Another important return to the starting eleven is Christian Pulisic, who was a major contributor early in the season with four goals in the first six games.
Although this is a derby, with both teams motivated to assert their city supremacy, Inter seem to have a slight edge to win this crucial match.
The Nerazzurri are favorites: according to BetMines’ algorithm, an Inter win (1) has a 52% probability, compared to Milan’s 22%. Chivu’s team is in excellent form, performing particularly well in terms of style and consistency, while Milan have struggled in recent outings, narrowly defeating Roma and drawing 2-2 with Parma after being two goals behind.
Regarding past meetings, last season Milan remained unbeaten in the five derbies, with 3 wins and 2 draws. Considering the last ten head-to-head matches, however, the record favors Inter: 5 wins, 3 losses, and 2 draws.
In terms of goals, BetMines predicts a match with at least three total goals (Over 2.5) and both teams to score (Both Teams to Score), results seen in 6 of the last 7 encounters.
Tactics will also play a key role: Inter will aim to maintain possession and build goal-scoring opportunities through technical superiority, while Milan will focus on counterattacks from Leao, Pulisic, and Rabiot to challenge Sommer.
INTER (3-5-2): Sommer; Akanji, Acerbi, Bastoni; Carlos Augusto, Barella, Calhanoglu, Sucic, Dimarco; Thuram, L. Martinez. Coach: Chivu
MILAN (3-5-2): Maignan; Tomori, Gabbia, Pavlovic; Saelemaekers, Fofana, Modric, Rabiot, Bartesaghi; Leao, Pulisic. Coach: Allegri
