On Saturday, September 13, at the Juventus Stadium, Serie A returns with a bang as the Derby d’Italia takes center stage between Juventus and Inter, two teams eager to bounce back after a disappointing last season. The hosts have confirmed Igor Tudor on the bench, and so far, the choice has proved successful: two wins in two league matches, built on an impenetrable defense and an attack capable of striking at the right moment. The minimum objective for the Bianconeri is to finish in the top four to qualify for the next Champions League, but if they manage to beat Inter, they could become one of Napoli’s most serious title contenders. The Nerazzurri, on the other hand, arrive in Turin aiming to redeem themselves after the bad home defeat against Udinese before the international break. For last year’s Serie A runners-up, this is already a crucial match: another loss would dangerously increase the gap from the top positions. The game is set within a tough and delicate schedule, as both teams will make their Champions League debut next week, Juventus against Borussia Dortmund and Inter against Ajax. This makes squad rotation and player management even more important for both coaches, without reducing the spectacle for fans eagerly awaiting this Italian football classic.
A strong start to the season for Juventus: they come from a 1-0 away win at Genoa and remain perfect after two matches. In the first 180 minutes of Serie A, the Bianconeri have not conceded a single goal, thanks to the return of Bremer at the heart of the defense after a long injury that kept him sidelined for most of last season.
In attack, Dusan Vlahovic is making an impact, scoring two of the three goals so far under Tudor. The fitness of Francisco Conceicao will need monitoring after picking up an injury on international duty with Portugal. On the left flank, Tudor is still without the suspended Cambiaso.
At home, the Old Lady won their only match so far this season, a convincing 2-0 over Parma with goals from David and Vlahovic. This was their fifth straight home win, following last season’s victories against Genoa, Lecce, Monza, and Udinese.
Inter reached the international break after a surprising 2-1 home defeat against Udinese, despite taking the lead in the 17th minute through Denzel Dumfries. This result quickly erased the enthusiasm from their opening-day thrashing of Torino, a 5-0 win with a Thuram brace and goals from Lautaro Martinez, Bonny, and Bastoni.
The loss against Udinese raised concerns over the team’s defensive stability under coach Cristian Chivu. As a result, on the final day of the transfer window, the club signed Swiss defender Manuel Akanji from Manchester City. In attack, hopes remain pinned on the Thuram–Lautaro partnership, with the Argentine set to be available despite his midweek match for Argentina against Ecuador.
Inter have yet to play away from home this season, but last year they were very strong on the road, winning their last three away matches against Atalanta, Torino, and Como, while surprisingly struggling more at San Siro.
In the first two matchdays, Juventus have rediscovered their defensive solidity, keeping clean sheets against Parma and Genoa. However, with the level of opposition rising, it is likely that Lautaro and his teammates could hand them their first goal conceded this season.
Inter, meanwhile, are still searching for balance after the departure of Pavard and the arrival of Akanji, who has yet to train with his new teammates due to international duty. Bisseck continues to deliver inconsistent performances and was among the worst in the loss against Udinese.
Given these circumstances, Juventus, with offensive talents like Yildiz, Vlahovic, and David, look well-equipped to break through Sommer at least once. Still fresh in memory is the spectacular 4-4 draw between these two last October 27. The BetMines algorithm predicts another match where both teams have a strong chance of scoring.
JUVENTUS (3-4-2-1): Di Gregorio; Gatti, Bremer, Kelly; Kalulu, Locatelli, Thuram, Joao Mario; Koopmeiners, Yildiz; David. Coach: Igor Tudor
INTER (3-5-2): Sommer; Akanji, Acerbi, Bastoni; Dumfries, Barella, Calhanoglu, Sucic, Dimarco; Thuram, Lautaro Martinez. Coach: Cristian Chivu
