The match between the newly promoted team in La Liga, Leganes, and the reigning World, European and Spanish Champion, Real Madrid, is worth an important place in the Copa del Rey semi-finals. The two teams come to this one-off match after having both passed the last round of the Cup with no small amount of suffering, starting with Real Madrid who won 5-2 against Celta Vigo but only after extra time, and Leganes' success was equally hard-fought, trailing until a quarter of an hour from the end against Almeria but capable of overturning the result at the end. Although they belong to two different worlds, Leganes has played, at home, 4 times in the last 6 years against the Galacticos and, surprisingly, the balance is equal considering one win each and two draws. For the small team that plays in the south of Madrid, therefore, there is the courage given by precedents and the reality of some excellent recent results (such as the success against Atletico Madrid) while for Real Madrid there is the misstep in La Liga against Espanyol which however comes after a long series of victories full of goals which, in fact, for now catalogue the defeat at the RCDE Stadium as episodic.
Leganes' last match was lost 0-1 against Rayo Vallecano but it was their first KO after more than a month. In the last 6 matches of the green and blues, in fact, there are 3 wins, 2 draws and 1 defeat for a positive partial balance.
Qualifying for the current cup quarter-finals is an excellent partial achievement while sixteenth place in La Liga, two points above the third-last means being in the thick of the fight to avoid relegation.
In this Copa del Rey, for now, Leganes' results are notable, having won 3 matches, drawn 1 and scoring 2.25 goals per match.
After a brilliant period, Real Madrid suffered a defeat against Espanyol that interrupted the sequence of 6 consecutive victories.
Real Madrid still remains first in La Liga and qualified for the Champions League playoffs (where, however, they will meet Manchester City).
In the month of January (so before the last league match lost) Real Madrid scored 32 goals in 9 games for an incredible average of 3 and a half goals per match even if, in the last round of the Copa del Rey, against Celta Vigo, they only got past after extra time thanks to a brace from the very young Endrick.
Real Madrid defeated Leganes in the league by 0-3 and, before the last KO, they were a runaway train that left no room for their opponents. It is therefore reasonable to think that Ancelotti's boys can start marching again against a team that, however, should not be underestimated and that, without conceding a goal, defeated Atletico Madrid and Barcelona. Also looking at the difficulty with which Real Madrid passed the last round of the Cup and also assuming a possible very defensive conduct of Leganes, the BetMines algorithm prediction more easily predicts seeing at most one team score.
Leganes (5-4-1): Dmitrovic; Alti, Rosier, Poirrier, Nastasic, Cruz; Raba, Cissé, Noupa, Oscar; El – Haddadi. Coach: Jimenez.
Real Madrid (4-2-3-1): Courtois; Vasquez, Asencio, Tchouameni, Mendy; Ceballos, Valverde; Rodrygo, Bellingham, Vinicius; Mbappé. Coach: Ancelotti.
