Third meeting of the season between Manchester United and Arsenal, this time at Old Trafford after the first two at the Emirates, saw a win each, that of the Gunners in the first leg of the Premier League and that of the Red Devils on penalties in the FA CUP. The next match could therefore be seen as a sort of truth match but, in reality, the championship discussions for the two teams seem to be already defined regardless of the outcome of the match. In fact, the possibility that Arsenal can catch up with Liverpool or that they can leave the top four is very difficult, just as the chance that Manchester United can climb to reach a place that allows them to play in Europe next season is very remote. In these terms, therefore, what remains an exceptional challenge loses a bit of importance for its intrinsic value in the championship but could be decisive in boosting morale in the competitions where, instead, the Red Devils and Gunners are in the running and will play out the last efforts of the season: respectively the Europa League and the Champions League. Despite this, it will certainly be a high-intensity match in a magical setting like Old Trafford and no one will want to drop points, neither Manchester United to avoid adding another black page to their championship nor Arsenal to hold on to second place and not lose the magic after the historic 1-7 against PSV.
The away draw against Real Sociedad is a good result ahead of the return to Manchester and gives a good image of the team that, however, is only fourteenth in the league: 9 wins, 6 draws and 12 defeats for the Red Devils.
At home, Manchester United is coming off a defeat against Fulham and, certainly, does not have a positive recent record: 5 defeats in the last 10 games played at Old Trafford.
In general, in the league, Amorim's team has conceded more goals than they have scored: 39 against just 33.
It seems strange to talk about Arsenal's offensive problems after a game in which 7 goals were scored but, even against Manchester United, the Gunners will find themselves without a centre forward.
The Gunners' 2025 record does have some "pauses": 8 wins, 4 draws and 3 defeats in the new year. Arsenal maintain their defense as the least beaten in the entire Premier League: 23 goals conceded in 27 games.
Away from home, in the Premier League, Arsenal have not lost in 9 away games.
The fact that this match may not have such a decisive impact on the championship of the two teams should increase the chances of seeing an open match, where, presumably, the two teams will play only for the three points. Manchester United's defensive problems seem to be greater than the lack of attackers in the Gunners' house (Havertz, Gabriel Jesus, Saka and Trossard out) while Amorim's team is expected to be unbalanced in attack and will try to win it by exploiting all its offensive potential. The BetMines algorithm prediction more easily sees a match with at least three total goals.
Manchester United (3-4-2-1): Onana; Yoro, De Ligt, Maguire; Mazraoui, Fernandes, Eriksen, Dalot; Zirkzee, Garnacho; Hojlund. Coach: Amorim.
Arsenal (4-3-3): Raya; Timber, Saliba, Gabriel, Calafiori; Partey, Rice, Odegaard; Nwaneri, Merino, Trossard. Coach: Arteta.
