In a sportingly almost desperate situation, Monza, in the late game on Monday, hosts Fiorentina at the U Power Stadium, sixth in the standings but also certainly not in its best moment. The pressure that the two teams will probably have for this match is equal, precisely because despite having different results and naturally different starting objectives, both Monza and Fiorentina are not marching as they would like. Monza, in reality, is really stuck and sees the points distance from the fourth-last place increase dangerously so much as to push the CEO Adriano Galliani to write a letter to the players to urge them to get at least 25 points in the second half of the season. Fiorentina, however, also knows that it must return to earning points and victories and, in this regard, who better than Raffaele Palladino, former coach of Monza, to prepare for this match? The Viola coach acknowledged the capital importance of the moment and said he saw his players ready for the away match, recalling however that, in the first leg, Monza came close to pulling off a coup, as Fiorentina only scored the equalizer in the 96th minute with Gosens.
There are two truly negative numbers that now worry Monza the most: the 6, which corresponds to the streak of consecutive defeats still in progress and the 9 which represents the points of delay from the fourth-last place in the standings, or from safety.
With these two millstones on their shoulders, Monza must try to wake up and can do so by remembering, first of all, the first leg played at the Franchi which ended 2-2 but led 0-2 until the 45th minute. That draw was one of the team's positive results between September and October, including the draws with Inter and Roma and the victory in Verona, but then from November until now in 10 games, 8 defeats and 2 draws have obviously sunk the situation of the team that can "smile" only for the numbers of its defense: with 27 goals conceded it is far from being the worst in the championship, indeed! As many as 8 Serie A teams have conceded more goals than the red and whites.
Fiorentina's last KO against Napoli was dry and without appeal: a 0-3 that framed the difficult period of the Viola who, in the last 5, have drawn 2 times, lost 3, without ever winning, a figure that goes against the trend for a team that, in the championship, has so far collected 9 victories scoring almost 2 goals per match! (31 in 18 games).
The last game away from the Franchi, for Fiorentina was the 2-2 draw on the field of Juventus: a good result certainly but which also meant the fourth away game in the last five (including the Conference League) in which Fiorentina has not achieved victory.
As we have hinted, both Monza and Fiorentina are coming into this match at a difficult time. It is normal, therefore, that there could be a somewhat hesitant start to the match and, perhaps, a prolonged study phase. We have also highlighted the good numbers, despite everything, of the Monza defense that could work if the team were to take the lead just as, with Fiorentina ahead, the red and white attack would risk struggling again. Here, then, is the BetMines prediction, leaning towards a match where at least one of the two teams will not score.
Monza (3-4-2-1): Turati; Izzo, Caldirola, Carboni; Birindelli, Bondo, Sensi, Pereira; Ciurria, Caprari, Djuric. Coach: Bocchetti.
Fiorentina (4-2-3-1): De Gea; Dodo, Comuzzo, Ranieri, Gosens; Adli, Mandragora; Colpani, Beltran, Sottil; Kean. Coach: Palladino.
