The 4th round of Serie A closes at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona with the Monday Match between Napoli and Pisa, two teams fighting for very different objectives but both in need of crucial points. The home side comes in with a perfect record after three games, while the visitors have collected just one point so far. Antonio Conte’s men cannot afford missteps, as they defend their Serie A title won last May, while also looking to bounce back from a disappointing 2-0 defeat against Manchester City in their Champions League opener. Beating Pisa would not only consolidate top spot but also provide momentum ahead of two key upcoming fixtures: the next Serie A clash against AC Milan and the second Champions League group match against Sporting Lisbon. Pisa, on the other hand, approaches this game aware of the gap in quality but also with less pressure, knowing that survival depends on beating more direct rivals rather than giants like Napoli. The newly promoted side has shown good performances so far but has struggled badly in front of goal—a weakness that could become even more costly with tough fixtures against Fiorentina and Bologna coming up.
After an impressive 3-1 away win against Fiorentina in Serie A last weekend, Napoli suffered their first defeat of the season midweek, losing 2-0 at the Etihad to Manchester City in the 2025/26 Champions League debut. That match was heavily influenced by captain Giovanni Di Lorenzo’s red card just 20 minutes in, after a last-man foul on Haaland.
Aside from the European setback, Conte’s side has started Serie A strongly: three wins out of three, an excellent defensive record (just one goal conceded and two clean sheets), and an attack averaging two goals per game. Against Fiorentina, three summer signings—De Bruyne, Hojlund, and Beukema—found the net, proving the success of the transfer campaign.
Winning at the Maradona will be a massive challenge for Pisa: Napoli are unbeaten in their last 12 Serie A home games (9 wins and 3 draws). Their last home defeat came on December 12, 2024 (0-1 against Lazio, then coached by Marco Baroni). Overall, Conte’s men have lost only twice in their last 27 matches across all competitions.
In the last Serie A round, Pisa suffered their second consecutive defeat, falling 1-0 at the Arena Garibaldi against Udinese. That result mirrored the 1-0 home loss before the break against Gian Piero Gasperini’s Roma. Beyond the back-to-back defeats, the biggest concern is their lack of goals: in both games, the attack failed to score.
Alberto Gilardino’s side, with just one point from the opening three matches, is struggling with the adjustment to Serie A and with the poor form of their main striker, Meister, still goalless despite starting every game. To change things, the coach could adopt a more offensive system, pairing Nzola and Meister up front with Tramoni in support.
Defensively, however, Pisa has shown promise: just three goals conceded in three games (one per match on average), despite facing strong sides like Roma and Atalanta. Their only away game so far brought their lone point of the season—a 1-1 draw against Juric’s Atalanta.
Napoli, after their Champions League stumble, will aim to reassert domestic dominance with a fourth straight Serie A win against newly promoted Pisa.
Conte’s men may not only win but could also keep a clean sheet for the third time this season. With a solid backline featuring Buongiorno and Beukema, and considering Pisa’s ongoing scoring drought, it looks unlikely the visitors will find the net against the defending champions.
As an alternative to the home win, BetMines tips the “both teams NOT to score” market, expecting a Napoli victory to nil. This outcome could materialize even if Conte opts for squad rotation after the Manchester City clash.
NAPOLI (4-2-3-1): Meret; Di Lorenzo, Beukema, Buongiorno, Spinazzola; Anguissa, Gilmour; Politano, De Bruyne, McTominay; Hojlund. Coach: Conte.
PISA (3-4-1-2): Semper; Canestrelli, Caracciolo, Bonfanti; Cuadrado, Marin, Aebischer, Angori; Tramoni; Nzola, Moreo. Coach: Gilardino.
