A few days after securing their 13th French league title, Paris Saint Germain face another pivotal clash in their season. At the Parc des Princes, the Parisians will host the first leg of the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals against Aston Villa, one of the most in-form English teams at the moment. Luis Enrique’s side has, so far, lived up to preseason expectations: winning Ligue 1 (with six games to spare), reaching the Champions League quarter-finals, and securing a spot in the Coupe de France final scheduled for May. With the domestic title race wrapped up early, PSG can now focus solely on the one trophy that still eludes them — and has become a true obsession in Paris: the UEFA Champions League. While on paper this match against Aston Villa may seem manageable for the French giants, it holds several hidden dangers. The Villans are riding a 7-game winning streak, including a recent Premier League victory over Nottingham Forest, currently third in the league. Moreover, Unai Emery — no stranger to big European nights — will be on the opposing bench. The former PSG coach has won 4 Europa League titles in recent years with Sevilla and Villarreal. One key reason behind Villa's strong run is their successful winter transfer window, during which the club added talented and motivated players to Emery’s squad — notably Marcus Rashford and Marcos Asensio, the latter on loan from PSG.
PSG come into this match on the back of six consecutive wins across all competitions, the most recent being a 1-0 win over Angers, thanks to a goal from 2005-born Desire Doue (his fourth goal in his last three matches). During this run, they’ve scored 19 goals (3.16 per game) and conceded just 5.
Their Champions League campaign didn’t get off to the best start — with three losses in the group stage, PSG ended up 15th overall. However, the knockout phase has shown a different side of Luis Enrique’s team: they swept past Brest in the round of 16 (aggregate 10-0) and then eliminated Liverpool on penalties after a 1-0 win at Anfield.
Aston Villa are also enjoying a fantastic run of form. Their 2-1 win over Nottingham Forest last weekend brought them within two points of fourth-placed Chelsea in the Premier League, while also keeping their FA Cup hopes alive. That win marked their seventh consecutive victory across all competitions, with 17 goals scored and only 2 conceded.
Villa have been one of the true surprises of this season’s Champions League, winning 7 out of 10 matches, scoring 19 goals (1.9 per match). They finished 8th in the first phase with 16 points from 5 wins, 1 draw, and 2 losses. In the round of 16, they comfortably dispatched Club Brugge, winning 3-1 away and 3-0 at home.
Never before has PSG looked so equipped to reach at least the Champions League semi-finals, where they would face either Arsenal or Real Madrid. After knocking out a giant like Liverpool, nothing seems off-limits for Luis Enrique’s men — despite the suspension of Marquinhos, a crucial blow in central defense.
It’s likely the French side will look to start strong, leveraging the unpredictability of their wingers and the incredible form of Dembele, who has already scored 25 goals in 2025, to gain as much advantage as possible ahead of the return leg next week.
Aston Villa will need to withstand the initial pressure, aiming to hit PSG on the break with the speed of their forwards — especially Marcus Rashford, who will be key in transitions.
As for the Paris Saint Germain vs Aston Villa prediction, the BetMines algorithm heavily favors the home side in this first leg of the Champions League quarter-finals.
