Just looking at the names of the two teams, Paris Saint Germain and Manchester City, and looking at their recent results, full of victories, one might think of a spectacular challenge anticipated in the Champions League between two powerhouses that could meet up ahead, perhaps in the final. All this is true but... half true. In fact, if for the eventual winner of the super challenge, the journey in the Champions League would almost certainly continue, for the eventual loser, incredibly, the European future would be at risk because, at the moment, PSG and Manchester City are effectively on the edge, on the threshold between the playoffs and elimination, a problematic situation that, as far as Paris Saint Germain is concerned, is at least compensated by the usual domination in the league, while for Manchester City it is instead weighed down and a lot by the disappointing Premier League conducted so far which sees the Citizens fourth and far behind the top. So, the gaze of any football fan, on Wednesday evening, will rest on the Parc des Princes and on the outcome of this match which sees Manchester City one point ahead of Paris Saint Germain, who currently appear as the first team among those eliminated and who therefore, also due to the home field advantage, will have more urgency for the three points than Guardiola's team, who, even if one point does not guarantee mathematical passage, might not be displeased.
Paris Saint Germain's difficult Champions League journey, consisting of 2 wins, 1 draw and 3 defeats, is not enough with 180 minutes to go in the first phase: the current breakdown, in fact, sees the French twenty-fifth and therefore first among the eliminated.
For Luis Enrique's team, the situation is much better in Ligue 1 instead where, with 14 wins, 4 draws and 0 defeats, first place is not currently in question, just as there is no doubt that, currently, the team is really in form: 7 wins and 1 draw in the last 8, just as Bradley Barcola is good, having scored 2 goals and 2 assists in the last 2 games after a long period of darkness.
Considering the matches played at home this season, there has been only 1 KO: that of November 6, in the Champions League, against Atletico Madrid.
Manchester City's current state can certainly be defined as recovering, with the prodigious 0-6 at Portman Road against Ipswich, seeming to have sent a sort of message about their strength and their hunger for success which, up to now, in the Champions League has remained unsatisfied 66% of the time, looking at the record of 2 wins, 2 draws and 2 defeats achieved so far.
In the last 5 matches, however, Manchester City have won 4 times and drawn only 1 but the number of away defeats suffered so far by Guardiola's team this season, in all competitions, is a nightmare: 7!
It is not easy to imagine the tactical approach of the two teams to this match because if it is true that a victory would be lifesaving, a defeat, especially for Paris Saint Germain, would risk being lethal. It is a fact, however, that the two teams will arrive at kick-off in good shape, general and of many key players. Imagining more tactics and attention than expected and contextualizing the weight of the match, the BetMines algorithm prediction suggests a match with a maximum of three goals.
