The newly promoted Real Oviedo, after hosting Real Madrid at the end of August, prepares for another big night of football as they welcome Barcelona on Matchday 6 of the LaLiga 2025/26 season. The game will be played at the Nuevo Carlos Tartiere Stadium on Thursday, September 25, in what looks like a classic David vs Goliath clash. After five rounds, the two sides are separated by 10 points in the table, with Oviedo sitting 17th and Barcelona 2nd. It looks like mission impossible for the hosts, who are still struggling to adapt to top-flight football after their promotion last May. With only 3 points so far, considering a tough schedule, they urgently need to collect more points to avoid going straight back down to the Segunda División. Despite the motivation to perform well in front of their home fans, it’s hard to see the Asturians getting anything from this game against the reigning champions. Barcelona, even without key man Lamine Yamal, are proving to be one of the most spectacular and in-form teams not just in Spain, but also in Europe, as shown by their 2-1 win over Newcastle in their Champions League opener. In the league, however, Hansi Flick’s side currently trail Real Madrid by two points, having dropped points once with a draw. For this reason, winning consistently is vital, and that doesn’t look like a difficult task for a team that has won 20 of their last 23 LaLiga matches.
Real Oviedo have not started the 2025/26 season well, with one win and four defeats in their opening five league games. Last weekend they lost 1-0 away to Elche, after previously falling 2-0 against Getafe, failing to score in either game.
The main issue for Paunović’s side, currently 17th with 3 points, is their offensive output. In their first five matches, they have scored just one goal while conceding eight (1.6 per game). Unless they improve their scoring record quickly, survival will be a tough mission.
At home, the Carbayones have collected their only points so far, and their only goal of the season, in a 1-0 win over Real Sociedad. Their other home match, however, ended in a heavy 3-0 defeat to league leaders Real Madrid, showing the step up in quality at this level.
Barcelona enter this midweek round unbeaten, with no defeats in their opening six official matches of the 2025/26 season. After their strong start in the Champions League, winning 2-1 away at Newcastle, the Blaugrana followed up with a comfortable 3-0 victory over Getafe in the league.
After five LaLiga rounds, the reigning champions sit 2nd with 13 points, two behind a perfect Real Madrid. Flick’s team already boast the league’s best attack, with 16 goals scored (3.2 per game). Compared to last season, their defense also looks more solid, having conceded only three goals so far.
Away from home, Barcelona are just as impressive, losing only once in their last 20 away league games. This season, they have three wins and one draw on the road, averaging 2.25 goals scored and 1 conceded per game.
The Real Oviedo vs Barcelona prediction for this LaLiga Matchday 6 clash heavily favors the visitors. Despite the packed schedule, the Blaugrana will not want to drop points, especially with Real Madrid currently leading the table.
While a Barcelona win is the most likely outcome (65% probability according to the algorithm), the best betting tips might lie in the goals markets.
BetMines expects a high-scoring match, most likely Over 2.5 goals. With the worst attack (Oviedo) facing the best attack (Barcelona), the visitors could easily do all the scoring themselves. Still, it’s worth noting that Barcelona have conceded at least once in every away game so far this season.
The Over 2.5 goals market, which has landed in five of Barcelona’s last six games, remains strong value. The absence of Lamine Yamal should not be a concern, as Ferran Torres (4 goals) and Raphinha (3 goals) are in excellent form.
REAL OVIEDO (3-4-1-2): Escandell; Bailly, Carmo, Calvo; Ahijado, Dendoncker, Reina, Alhassane; Colombatto; Chaira, Rondon. Coach: Paunović
BARCELONA (4-3-3): J. Garcia; Kounde, E. Garcia, Cubarsi, Martin; Pedri, De Jong, Casado; Raphinha, Lewandowski, Torres. Coach: Hansi Flick
