The second round of the Spanish LaLiga ends on Monday, August 25, at the Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán Stadium, where Sevilla and Getafe face off—two teams coming off disappointing seasons. The hosts, who narrowly avoided relegation last year, have set a modest goal of finishing mid-table this season. Their start was far from ideal, as the Rojiblancos were defeated 3-2 by Athletic Bilbao at San Mamés. Considering they were up against the fourth-best team of LaLiga 2024/25 and conceded the decisive goal only in the final minutes, Matías Almeyda’s men still performed above expectations overall. Now comes the real test against a more approachable opponent like Getafe, against whom Sevilla are unbeaten in their last four meetings. The mission is clear: secure three points against José Bordalás’ side, but without taking unnecessary risks that could leave them stuck at zero points after two rounds. On the other hand, Getafe already avoided that risk by winning their opening match against Celta Vigo. The Azulones, who have spent the last five seasons in the lower half of the table, once again aim to secure safety as early as possible, while developing young talent and building for a brighter future. Earning a second consecutive away win in LaLiga at Sevilla would be a huge confidence boost for their campaign.
After a solid preseason (four draws, two wins, and one defeat), Sevilla debuted in LaLiga 2025/26 with a 3-2 loss at Athletic Bilbao. Despite the setback, Almeyda’s men showed fighting spirit, coming back from two goals down thanks to strikes from Agoumé and Lukebakio, before conceding the decisive goal to Robert Navarro.
The Rojiblancos’ home record has been disappointing in 2025, with just one win in their last ten games at the Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán (five draws and four defeats). Compared to the Bilbao match, Almeyda should have Ruben Vargas back, while center-back Nianzou remains sidelined. Spotlight on Lucien Agoumé, reportedly linked with Manchester United, who ended last season in excellent form.
Although Getafe’s preseason was underwhelming (three draws, two losses), they started the league campaign in the best way possible, beating Celta Vigo 2-0 away. Both starting forwards, Uche and Liso, found the net, while the defense kept a clean sheet for the third time in their last six games (including friendlies).
Getafe are on a run of two consecutive away wins in official competitions: before the 0-2 victory at Vigo, they closed last season with a 1-2 win at Mallorca. Bordalás comes into the Sevilla clash without left winger Juanmi, while striker Borja Mayoral remains doubtful.
Both Sevilla and Getafe finished last season dangerously close to the relegation zone, ending just one and two points above the drop, respectively. They will likely approach this game with caution, resulting in a match where the fear of losing could outweigh the desire to win.
Recent head-to-heads also suggest a low-scoring contest. Three of the last five meetings ended with fewer than 1.5 goals, including the goalless draw on February 1st, while the two before that finished 1-0 in Sevilla’s favor.
According to the BetMines algorithm, this will be a tight game with fewer than three goals. The Under 2.5 outcome, a frequent trend in Sevilla’s home matches last season, remains the most likely result.
