This could be the match that will make it clear whether or not Liverpool's unstoppable start to the season is in a slight slump: on Sunday afternoon, the Reds will have a tough match to close out the 17th Premier League fixture at Tottenham, who, reinvigorated by their rather pyrotechnic 4-3 victory over Manchester United in the Carabao Cup and St Mary's' stunning victory against Southampton, will try to score against their toughest opponent in order to look up again.
Spurs are starting (or restarting) from the 4-3 success over Manchester United, which saw incredible plays in attack (including Son's goal directly from a corner) and mistakes by the defence that, in fact, almost gave the first two goals to the opponents.
If in the cup, therefore, the mission is accomplished, in the championship, however, there is a long way to go for Tottenham and the easy success against Southampton, last in the standings, certainly cannot be enough: the statistic of only 1 point in the previous 3 games is very penalising and places Postecoglu's team only in tenth place.
Tottenham, in the Premier League, is the team that draws the least: only 2 draws together with 7 defeats and 7 victories and this figure paints the picture of a team with great potential but also with many gaps.
Just like their rivals, Liverpool passed the Carabao Cup round against Southampton more easily than the scoreline suggests (1-2). The Reds thus regain the taste of success after the draw against Fulham that followed the one against Newcastle.
Before this double X sign, Liverpool could be considered truly unstoppable in the Premier League, considering their 11 wins in 13 matches, while now they seem to be a bit more ‘human’ again.
The Reds' statistics, however, are impressive and tell us of a team that hasn't lost overall for 20 games and that also away from Anfield has crazy numbers: 10 wins in the last 12 away matches.
Against Manchester United, Tottenham suffered far less than the three goals they conceded and, previously, the trip to Southampton had seen Forster's clean sheet. If, as it seems, Spurs are on a slight upward trend and approach the match with confidence and optimism, then it might not be the ‘usual’ cakewalk for Liverpool.
There might be goals, but perhaps not too many, and remembering that the Reds have the best defence in the Premier League and Tottenham the third (despite the four goals conceded by Chelsea recently), BetMines are leaning towards a three-goal maximum.
Tottenham (4-2-3-1): Forster; Spence, Dragusin, Gray, Pedro Porro; Bissouma, Sarr; Son, Maddison, Kulusevski; Solanke. All. Postecoglu.
Liverpool (4-2-3-1): Alisson; Alexander - Arnold, Van Dijk, Gomez, Robertson; Mac Allister, Gravenberch; Salah, Szoboszlai, Gakpo; Diaz. All. Slot.
